Provenance Vineyards is the joint venture of three passionate winemakers, Tom Rinaldi, Chris Cooney, and Trevor Durling; their first vintage, in 1999, established the winery’s style: an elegant yet powerful richness with deep, intense flavors that reflect the vintage and vineyard. Uppercut is the winery’s second label and the wines are made by Chris Cooney. Sourced from select vineyards in Mendocino and Lake Counties, the grapes for this bottling definitely benefited from the large diurnal temperature swings both areas are known for. This allowed for slow maturation of the fruit, leading to more complexity of flavor in the finished juice. Refined and classy, the wine has a very rich, rounded nose and a palate that combines beautiful viscosity and lushness with good background acidity and flavors of key lime and nectarine.
